Somebody Else Wins

I remember
You liked me so much,
You cooked me breakfast.
Spoiled me with so many
gifts and road trips.
Sang “Got What I Got” to me
At Jason Aldeans.
The way you looked at me.
You can’t fake that.
You really loved me.

Said you reached for the stars

And somehow grabbed me.

Weren’t sure what to do

Other than cherish me.

Said I was precious.

Unlike any past lover.

Made a heart broken skeptic

believe in her lover.

I felt every ounce of it all.

Sadly, I felt every ounce of it go.

When you relapsed last fall.

I still held on.

I still tried to keep you.

I should’ve let go.

Every sad dark moment,

I witnessed a whole new you.

That shit I won’t even get into.

Now I’m eating

home cooked breakfasts alone.

Crying at the table,

Watching sad country music videos.

Reminiscing a life,

That’s now long gone.

You can take all that love

And rip it outta the heart.

You can remove the cowboy

Who broke that broken heart.

But you can never take the wife

out of a good woman.

Once a wife always a wife.

Real ones will notice.

A good man will forever

fucking cherish.

No depression, addiction, or drug

of his,

Will ever again,

Fuck with her faith.

A real one’s a real one.

She still even prays.

For the thief,

Who stole her heart,

For his soul to be saved.

But she’s forcing herself.

Really trying to move on now.

She’s found quite the potentials.

They might make the list.

The draft is drafting.

We’ll see who gets picked.

Someday, you will look back

and really fucking miss.

With cause to your loss,

Somebody else wins.
